The Cathance River Nature Preserve is located in the Highland Green development off the ME Route 196 bypass (Coastal Connector) in Topsham. From the intersection of US Route 201 and ME Route 196 in Topsham, take ME Route 196 east for 0.5 mile towards Bath and US Route 1 North. At the first traffic light, turn left into the Highland Green entrance (Village Drive). Follow Village Drive 0.8 mile and then turn right onto Evergreen Circle. Park at the Hiker's Parking kiosk and take the Heath Loop trail, going clockwise.
You are looking for a small camouflaged Lock & Lock. There are pencils inside along with a logbook and a few small goodies for trade. Kindly reseal the box tightly and replace it right where it was.
When you leave, keep following the dirt road around the big loop to drive through a residential neighborhood that is almost bizarre in its perfection.
This cache is placed in memory of my husband, who died unexpectedly in April 2014. As a child of the 70s, Star Trek was a major formative influence on his morality and worldview. It fostered in him a lifelong fascination with both science fiction and space travel. Like James T. Kirk, my husband was curious, open-minded, and a hero in his own right.
"How we deal with death is at least as important as how we deal with life."
- James T. Kirk
