Welcome to beautiful and friendly Meigs County, Ohio! Stop and take a "rest." Founded on April 1, 1819, it was named in honor of Return J. Meigs, Jr, the 4th governor of Ohio. Meigs County lies in the Appalachian Plateau region of the Appalachian Mountains. When looking at a map of Ohio, Meigs County can be found by looking for the "boot" in the southeastern corner of the state. The Ohio River separates its eastern and southern boundaries from the state of West Virginia. There are a variety of restaurants, shops, and recreational opportunities all right along the riverfront in the county seat of Pomeroy. Meigs county is a laid-back place far removed from the hustle and bustle of a city. Feel free to stick around and explore our hills and valleys, right on down to the river!
