Geocache Description:

Here's another piece of local history that most people don't know about.

DO NOT access this cache directly from the Yakima Valley Highway! You'll need to access it from Ferson Rd. Also be aware of harvest activity as this field is an active agricultural operation.

In 1948, on a 30 acre plot of land among the sage brush, coyotes, and rattlesnakes, located along State Route 410, Harold and Louessa Brown built a horse racetrack and rodeo grounds between Sunnyside and Grandview, called Sunny-Grand. In 1952, they began racing hard tops race cars on the dirt track. The following year, they paved the track and changed the name to Sunny-Grand Speedway. The ½ mile track, with its narrow straights, raced midgets, sprint cars, modifieds and motorcycles until they sold the track in 1970'

It is my belief that the logs, tires and chunks of pavement littered around this area are remnants of the days when the track was in action.

Check out the Facebook page dedicated to preserving the history of the track: https://www.facebook.com/groups/SunnGrandSpeedway/
