This cache is dedicated to my father, who passed away in May 2014. He inspired my love of history and travel; and his knack for getting to the core of an issue from a mosh of disconnected facts is something I still struggle towards. He was a kind and strong man who devoted his life to his family and country.
Dad's thirty year career in naval aviation saw him rise from a seaman recruit to a commissioned officer, and retirement as a full commander. Spaced through the years were several stops at Moffett Field. He spent a lot of time around Hangers Two and Three which you see from GZ, beyond the golf course. After retirement he had a second career in real estate in Santa Clara.
I know Dad would have been intrigued by geocaching, but he would also wonder what all the fuss was about.
This section of the Bay Trail runs behind Moffett Park and Lockheed Martin. The older trailhead by the Sunnyvale Water Pollution Control facility is now closed. The preferred trailhead is along Caribbean Drive west of Borregas Avenue.
For public transit access, take VTA Orange Line light rail to the Borregas Station, then go 0.5 mi/0.8 km north on Borregas to Caribbean. There is public parking by the trailhead and by the Sunnyvale Water Pollution Control facility west of Borregas and Carl Road, north of the intersection of Borregas and Caribbean Drive. There is no public access from Moffett Field or Lockheed Martin property.
Alternate parking and trailheads are west of Stevens Creek in the Shoreline Park area outside the Google campus.
Note that there is hunting allowed on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays in adjacent areas of the Don Edwards Notional Wildlife Refuge from October through January. You may hear the occasional shotgun blast.
Due to the nature of the trail we don't advise a night excursion, but the FTF-ers did just that. The sunsets and sunrises here can be spectacular.
Update 9/6/2025 Corrected cache location coordinates (duh'oh!) and added trailhead, and parking information for access from Shoreline Park area
Update 1/18/2025 Missing cache replaced, container style changed because of changes to vegetation.
Update 12/30/2020 Updated trailhead, transit and parking information and adjusted waypoints
Update 6/12/2016 Cache is back about 300 feet further west down the trail. The widening and re-paving did away with a lot of the bush it was in before.

Congratulations to wa11acew, Itsjoma, and freefly_hypoxic for the night FTF.
