This Broadmayne "D5" series of caches, multicaches and puzzles have been placed at Sites of Interest that mark the role this village played in preparations for Operation OVERLORD in 1944. The village of Broadmayne made up part of D-Day marshalling area 'D5'. From here units such as the 1st Inf Div & 2nd Rangers gathered prior to embarkation from the ports of Weymouth & Portland.
These caches have been placed as the village prepares to mark the 70th anniversary of Operation OVERLORD with a re-enactment camp and vintage village fete (http://tinyurl.com/nrw8m8q).
A documentary has also been prepared to mark the event http://broadmayne1944.wix.com/broadmayne1944#!films/csfj
The main area of Camp A covered what is now Lewell Way and Glebe Way, with Nissen huts along the roadside. The camp entrance turned through the hedgerow and into the space where the playground now stands.
