Sergeant Arthur George Knight(1886-1918) was born in Sussex England in 1886 and came to Regina in 1911 where he worked as a carpenter. Sergeant Knight was leading a bombing section when it was held up. Sergeant Knight then went forward alone, bayoneting several enemy machine gunners and trench mortar crews and forcing the rest to surrender. He then brought forward a Lewis gun, directing fire on the retreating enemy. His platoon went in pursuit and Knight, alone, went after 30 enemy soldiers who were going into a tunnel leading off the trenches. He killed an officer and 2 NCO's and took 20 prisoners. He was killed in action a few days later.
He was awarded the Victoria Cross posthumously for his actions on September 2nd, 1918 at Villers-les-Cagnicourt, France.
