The Danube was regulated here in 1886-96 according to the project of G. E. Lanfranconi.
The main aim was to improve sailing conditions and the projected width of the river was 300 m. Any environmental aspects were ignored and many sidearms were cut away from the river. However, the result looks impressive after more than 100 years in service.
