Geocache Description:

This is a one of a series of 51 caches (50 traditional (States) and a puzzle bonus (USA)) that will take you around the town of Thornbury.

All the caches are to do with the USA and will give you info on all the states.

To help you navigate the public footways around this area, the Explorer 167 map will be helpful.

1) Rhode Island is a primary centre for jewellery manufacturing in the United States.

2) Rhode Island is the smallest state in size in the United States. It covers an area of 1,214 square miles. Its distances north to south are 48 miles and east to west is 37 miles

3) Despite its dense population, 60% of the state is forestland.

4) Rhode Island was the first state to declare independence from British rule, declaring itself independent on May 4, 1776, two months before any other colony. The State was also the last of the thirteen original colonies to ratify the United States constitution.

      5) The first circus in the United States was in Newport in 1774.
