Mr. Crunchy received a grand tour of the historical sites of Darrtown, and discovered that his conductor grew up on the southwest corner of this little intersection in the 1940s and 50s. The marshy ground to the north of GZ had always been known to him as John Darr's Marsh. The road to the east did not exist at that time and this marshland provided a natural boundary demarcating the northeast corner of Darrtown. The marsh was never drained and cattails can still be seen here, as well as black mud if you step toward the cache after a good rain. It is the unofficial earth cache of Darrtown. My conductor told me that a magnificent and mighty willow had thrived here, and that it had stood at this intersection. He said it had such girth that all the kids in the neighborhood could not reach around it hand in hand. It was cut down to create the access road running east from GZ in the late 50s, early 60s.
