Geocache Description:

The Allan Park earth station, located northeast of Toronto, Ontario on 70 acres of land, houses a customer support center and a technical control center. This facility is also the back-up satellite control center and the main earth station complex.

Telesat Canada began commercial operations with a system of 37 earth stations of six different classes. The earth stations receive signals from the satellite and, in turn, feed these signals into local communications distribution systems such as telephone, television, data, and radio networks for further distribution into homes and offices of the communities served. One of the six classes of earth stations is: "Heavy-Route (HR) stations" Located at Lake Cowichan and Allan Park, these are the largest stations in the system, handling all forms of telecommunications. They are the only manned stations in the system.
Telesat provides reliable and secure satellite-delivered communications solutions worldwide to broadcast, telecom, corporate and government customers. Headquartered in Ottawa, Canada, with offices and facilities around the world, the company’s state-of-the-art fleet consists of 14 satellites plus the Canadian payload on ViaSat-1 with another satellite under construction. Telesat also manages the operations of additional satellites for third parties.
