Geocache Description:

Ham Wall National Nature Reserve is owned and managed by The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), and this geocache has been placed with their permission.

The reserve is an important wetland site and one of the largest reed beds in southern England. Restored from old peat workings the site contains a rich mosaic of reed beds, wet scrub, open water, grassland and woodland. A wealth of wildlife is supported including marsh harrier, water vole, otter, a wide variety of butterflies and dragonflies and the secretive bittern whose unique ‘boom’ can often be heard across the reed beds.

In spring the site is alive with birdsong and in autumn kingfishers can be seen dashing up and down the ditches and waterways.

There is disabled access to the site by RADAR key although the caches are not really suited to wheelchair access due to the uneven terrain once you leave the main track through the reserve.

You are looking for a medium sized clip top container in a camo bag. There are some bits and bobs inside for the kids to swap!. Please try to replace this cache carefully as there are many inquisitive creatures about long after we have all gone home! Watch out for nettles and, in the evening, midges a'plenty!
