This cache is next to Glen Long Park where there is soccer, swimming and baseball in the warms months and hockey and skating in the winter. I have lived close by this park most of my life.
Some 20 years ago, the pool was enclosed by a chain link fence into which a breach had been made by local opportunists. This allowed anyone to easily pass through and access the pool after hours. On a sultry summer evening more than one scofflaw would escape the heat by sneaking into the pool for a skinny dip. One such night I had some five friends over and I had no air conditioning. I told them about the fence breach and they were sold. We snuck through, got naked and jumped in. Almost immediately I saw headlights in the parking lot that made me nervous. I climbed out of the pool, grabbed my clothes and took refuge in some nearby bushes. I hollered at my friends to get out but they probably couldn't hear me over their splashing and shrieking. The headlights were from a cop car. I peered from my spot watching as two cops led my pals out through the fence and onto the grass still naked and carrying their clothes. I emerged fully dressed but dripping wet and told the cops I knew the guys and could vouch for them. They were unimpressed. I told one cop that I would personally ensure this would never happen again if we parted amicably. He nodded and said he would try to persuade his partner, but the partner was already writing up citations. The guys were charged with trespassing (no public nudity charges). I wasn't charged. In court, the judge gave them community service instead of fines.
Today, the pool has a much more fortified enclosure and such flagrant breaches of the law are a thing of the past. I hope you take time to enjoy the park while caching and think of my friends and I who were guilty only of trying to find relief on a hot August night.
