Horned Larks (Eremophila alpestris) are widespread songbirds of fields, deserts, and tundra, where they forage for seeds and insects, and sing a high, tinkling song. In Michigan, Horned Larks are most commonly found breeding where human activities, such as agriculture, have exposed bare ground, creating favorable nesting habitat like the fields around here. They are also commonly seen in the winter along road edges picking grit out of the gravel.
