Geocache Description:

The seventh of 12 caches that were placed on the Post road used by early Mennonites. Cache descriptions courtesy of the Mennonite Archives at Canadian Mennonite University.


While driving north into Schoenwiese from the south (#234) look for the post and post road plaque on the west side of the road. Park there and walk to the cache which is just a little west of there.

Directions from Menno History #6: From Neuhorst and Brown's Hotel onward, the Post Road did not follow the grid system of the municipality. Designed to be the main conduit for goods to and from the main economic point, the road wove its way through some important villages along the way. To recreate the western portion of the Post Road, the current road system being utilized. From Brown's Hotel go north to P.R.# 243. Then tum left where the next community along the road is the village of Schoenwiese. Here the lectern is located on the former school grounds.

Schoenwiese was one of the largest villages in the West Reserve with 171 persons listed in the 1880 census.
