RIM Park (aka Millennium Park), in Waterloo, Ontario, is infamous because it was financed using a magic funding formula generated by the math wizards at MFP Financial and approved by the sleeping financial administrators at the City of Waterloo. However, lost in all the controversy and court battles was the interesting artistic feature at the athletics complex titled "Vessel" by Stephen Cruise. The artistic feature is 5 groupings or "nests" of farm boulders with a stone acorn on top of each. Carved of granite in various colours, the top of each acorn has a matte finish, while the bottom is polished. Each nest of boulders is decorated with sandblasted elements - images and words taken from significant historical dates, artifacts of the early settlers and local landmarks. In this way, "Vessel" tells the history of the land now used as a recreational park.
Here are your instructions:
There are 4 pictures below, A, B, C, and D. Each is carved in stone somewhere within the "Vessel". Your job is to find the carvings, figure out the unknown numbers representing each and then complete the calculations below.
To Calculate the North coordinates subtract the following total from the posted North coordinates;
(A-B)*2/1000
To Calculate the West coordinates add the following total from the posted West coordinates;
(C-D)*6/1000
Please be careful at the final if wet as footing can be slippery. Enjoy your time in RIM Park!
