Geocache Description:

The current Ambulance organisation was first founded in Christchurch, New Zealand, on 30 April 1885 at St Mary’s church, near where this cache is located. It was decided to appoint the Governor (William Jervois) as president. Further branches quickly spread across the country providing first aid and patient transport. St John is lobbing government for additional funding to assist in more ambulances nation wide and reduce single crewed units, YOU can help by becoming and St John Volunteer, St john will put you through the New NZQA Certificate in First Response a course that teaches you advanced first aid and driving ambulances safety, you will get also a uniform and the gratification of seeing your treatment improve the life of others in the community. Not only that but great friendships and bonds that last years. There is a bond internationally that is hard to explain. After a number of years service you will be recognized for your service by the Queen. Which I can say is a great experience.
