Sutton Bonnington is very unusual in that it has two medieval churches, St Annes and St Michaels. This was because Sutton Bonnington used to be two villages, Sutton and Bonnington. St Michaels is situated on Main Street and was bonnington's church, they were united for civil purposes in 1829 and combined in 1923 into one parish.
The tall church tower has a peal of six bells, originallt the peak consisted of just three bells, two of which remain and the oldest dates back to 1579 and is the second oldest bell in nottinghamshire. Two more bells were added in 1849 and a sixth bell in 1977to commorate the silver jubilee of Elizabeth II.
