This event is hosted with the permission and support of our friends at Heartland Forest!
This CITO will be a traditional Cache-In Trash-Out event held in the area of the Heartland Forest on July 19th, 2014. CITO Headquarters will be at the posted coordinates. Attendees will collect trash and illicitly dumped junk from this area. Prizes and goodies will be given to all attendees.
I am currently taking an “Environmentalism in Social Work” course through the University of Victoria, and a requirement of the course is to participate in a community environmental initiative. What better way, I thought, than a CITO?! I hope that you will join me, ChefChad, and the geokids for a couple hours of community fun for a good cause.
This listing will be updated with more information about the CITO as it becomes available.
THE NEED:
We all have a special place in our hearts for this community gem, and anyone who wishes to do a little CITO action in the park itself is more than welcome. There are lots of other nearby locations which also require some loving care, due to illegal dumping and just plain thoughtless littering. We will be providing participants with a list of suggested locations within short walking and driving distance.
THE FORMAT:
* All participants will be asked to register at the CITO Headquarters.
* Participants may work alone or in teams.
* Participants will be allowed to CITO in other areas of Niagara Falls, as you prefer, however this area is our “CITO hot spot”.
* Trash bags and vinyl gloves will be supplied.
* Participants will be asked to bring collected trash / junk to the CITO Headquarters.
* All participants should return to CITO Headquarters by 3:00 PM for final check-in and the closing assembly / awards.
THE SCHEDULE:
Saturday – July 19th
10:00 AM - Registration Opens
3:00 PM - Final Trash Check-in
3:15 PM - Closing Assembly & Awards
THE GOODIES & PRIZES:
*Juice and light refreshments will be supplied at CITO Headquarters, but we would also encourage you to patronize the Blue Salamander Nature Café at the new Nature Centre on site.
*Potable water is available at Heartland Forest; however we would recommend using your own reusable water bottles.
*At the closing assembly, prizes will be awarded to the teams who collected the "Largest Amount of Trash," the "Largest Single Item," and the "Most Unique Item."
*We are working on some special occasion hidden micros – We will give you the coordinates on registration, and if you return the micro to Headquarters with a bag of trash, you will qualify for a prize!
THE STAFF:
TheGreenFairy, ChefChad, SnowKittenStarBorne, Geo-Boy, and any other geo-volunteers are welcome!
WHAT TO BRING:
* Other than your geocaching tools of the trade, you really do not have to bring anything with you, except for a hankering to do some serious CITO!
* Although vinyl gloves will be supplied...You may want to bring a pair of leather work gloves with you.
* Don’t forget your sunscreen and bug repellent, and wear sensible footwear.
