Il Comune di Pontelongo (PD) prende il nome dal ponte che si trova al suo ingresso. Il centro è parte dell’itinerario denominato “La via del sale e dello zucchero”, che collegava i Colli Euganei alla laguna di Venezia lungo il Bacchiglione, a contenimento del quale troviamo i murazzi, “cinte murarie” che formano una spessa cortina muraria, praticabile alla sommità. Di recente il fiume è stato oggetto di valorizzazione attraverso una serie di escursioni in battello che si svolgono nei mesi estivi da Pontelongo alla Laguna Sud.
Degni di nota sono: lo zuccherificio di Pontelongo (da cui l’appellativo di Pontelongo “Paese dello zucchero”); il Museo “Gesta – Guerra Saccisica Testimonianze Avvenimenti” presso l’edificio Rosa Maltoni dell’architetto Quirino de Giorgio; la bella villa Foscarini Erizzo, sede del Municipio. Tra gli eventi si segnalano la solenne processione con le immagini dei Santi in ricordo del Voto alla Madonna che nel 1676 liberò dalla peste il paese (maggio), il “Festival della dolcezza” (dicembre), la “Remada a seconda” (maggio) – per info sugli eventi vedi qui.

The Municipality of Pontelongo, in the Province of Padua, takes its name from the bridge that you will see at its entrance. The centre is part of the path known as “The salt and sugar route”, that connected the Euganean Hills to the Venetian Lagoon along the River Bacchiglione: as a containment of it we can see the murazzi, “surrounding walls” that made a thick wall barrier, walkable on the top of them. Recently the river has been appraised thanks to a series of boat trips in the summer months from Pontelongo toward the southern Lagoon.
Not to miss: the Pontelongo sugar refinary (from which the epithet of Pontelongo as the “City of sugar”); the Museo “Gesta – Guerra Saccisica Testimonianze Avvenimenti” (about Wars, Saccisica Area, Evidence, Circumstances) is housed in the Rosa Maltoni building erected by the architect Quirino de Giorgio; the beautiful Villa Foscarini Erizzo, city hall.
