Rivendell was a care home for people with learning difficulties, and a well-known and respected presence in Chudleigh, bringing employment, character and not least - a safe and secure home for up to 34 residents.
Princess Anne visited in 1986 (I recall her helicopter landing in the field overlooking the A38, which is now young trees).
As of June 2014, it's up for sale for a cool £1.5 million, with profits to be reinvested into buying property more suited to this policy shift.
