Welcome to the Fredericton Geocaching Tour!

This cache is part of the Fredericton Geocaching Tour. You are looking for a small container. In it is a message from the City of Fredericton, a log book, a pencil, and a symbol (for your passport). Download the passport HERE to track your progress on this series.

There are also rewards to earn on your progress with this series! After completing 10 caches, you will earn a wooden nickel. After you've found 20 caches, you will also be awarded with a pathtag. If you manage to find all 30 caches, you will receive a limited edition locally produced trackable pewter geocoin! (first come / first served for all rewards) to track your progress on this series.

This series is constantly evolving. If there is ever a cache disabled or archived, you can still claim the geocoin for finding the remaining caches. There are currently 30 active caches.

Bienvenue à le Visite de Fredericton Géocachatte!

Cette cache fait partie de la visite de Fredericton par géocache (chasse au trésor GPS). Vous devez chercher un petit contenant. Vous y trouverez un message de la Ville de Fredericton, un carnet de route, un crayon et un autocollant (pour votre passeport). Vos progrès dans la série peuvent aussi vous valoir des récompenses! Quand vous aurez trouvé 10 caches, vous mériterez une géopièce de 5 ¢ en bois. Quand vous en aurez 20, vous recevrez une petite plaque métallique. Si vous trouvez les 30 caches, vous obtenez une géopièce détectable en étain, produite localement en édition limitée! (Pour toutes les récompenses, le principe du premier arrivé, premier servi s’applique.)

Cette serie évolue continuellement. Si un geocache devient desactivé ou archivé, vous pourrez quand même reclamer les "geocoins" après avoir trouvé les caches qui restent. Il y a 30 geocaches actifs en ce temps.

York Street Rail Station

The York Street Railway Station is a former Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) station which opened in 1923. It is a brick structure with sandstone trim; distinguished by a tapestry brick patterning which is rare in Fredericton. The station has a hip-roof profile typical of CPR stations of the era and is one of the few brick railway stations remaining in New Brunswick. A covered portico at the west end of the building faced York Street, while the east end contained baggage rooms and freight offices.

Passenger service ended in April 1962 and the building was used as an office for CPR employees until it was abandoned in 1993. The station led to degradation as it was protected from demolition under the federal Heritage Railway Stations Protections Act. It was not until 2009 when J.D. Irving Ltd announced plans to restore the station and add a unique Alcool NB Liquor retail outlet while still maintaining the historical detail within the interior décor.

Gare de la rue York

La gare de la rue York est une ancienne gare du Canadien Pacifique (CP) qui a ouvert en 1923. Il s'agit d'une construction en brique sur des fondations en grès. Elle se caractérise par des briques tapisserie, une particularité rare à Fredericton. La gare, qui possède un toit à quatre versants, typique des gares du CP de l'époque, est une des dernières gares en brique qui existent encore au Nouveau-Brunswick. À l'extrémité ouest de l'édifice, un portique donnait sur la rue York. À l'extrémité est se trouvaient la consigne et les bureaux du service des marchandises.

Le dernier train de voyageurs a desservi la gare en avril 1962. Le bâtiment a ensuite abrité des bureaux pour les employés du CP, jusqu’à son abandon en 1993. La gare a fini par tomber en ruines, protégée de la démolition par la Loi fédérale sur la protection des gares ferroviaires patrimoniales. Ce n'est qu'en 2009 que J.D. Irving Ltd a annoncé son intention de la restaurer et d'y installer un magasin d'Alcool NB tout en conservant les éléments historiques de la décoration intérieure.
