When I was a lot younger, Grayling Road used to sweep into a long curve before it came out at a weird angle at the intersection of Old M-76 Federal Hwy / N. Higgins Lake Drive - East Higgins Lake Drive and it wasn't the safer intersection we know today. I used to ride with my family around this dangerous curve frequently on the way to Skyline to ski in the winter, or when my dad used have pinball games & pool tables in the lodge at the Jones Family campground (known as Rosco McHiggins for many years... now a KOA) as part of his 'game route'. My mom also used to be a horseback riding guide at nearby "Ames Stables" when I was young too. So, I used to spend a lot of my time near this area growing up.

I recall that this curve was locally notorius as being dangerous with numerous accidents taking place there, and was infamously known as "Deadman's Curve". Of course, as an impressionable kid, I used to sing along to Jan & Dean's song "Deadman's Curve" in the back of the car whenever we would drive around it!

I think the curve was taken out and the road made straight in ~1978-79. Even today, the long curve hasn't grown in much and can still be clearly seen.
