W sensie geograficznym Wisła ma dwa potoki źródłowe: Białą Wisełkę, główny górny bieg Czarną Wisełkę. Natomiast w sensie hydrologicznym rzeka Wisła zaczyna się w miejscu połączenia potoku Malinka z potokiem Wisełka powstałym z połączenia Białej i Czarnej Wisełki uchodzących do Jeziora Czerniańskiego.
To najdłuższa rzeka Polski, o długości 1047 km. Jest także najdłuższą rzeką uchodzącą do Morza Bałtyckiego.
