Lance-Corporal Micheal O'Leary was born in Ireland in 1890 and trained with the North-West Mounted Police in 1913 in Regina. He rejoined the British Army in 1914 and after the war returned to Canada in 1921 and joined the Ontario Police department. Then in the early 1930's he returned to England and served as a Captain in the British Army during World War II. He died in London England in 1961.
He was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions at Cuinchy France in 1915. He was 25 years when he rushed to the German front, killing 5 Germans. Then he continued on rushing a second barricade of Germans 60 yards further up and captured it after killing 3 enemy soldiers and taking 2 of them prisoner. All of which he did alone.
