TRIBUTE TO THE HOMSTEADERS - SHANNON LAKE SERIES Traditional Cache

This cache set up in spring 2014 is part of a water based series designed for LIVING SKIES – HUMAN POWERED WATERCRAFT EVENT at SHANNON LAKE (GC557X2). Please look for the cache as part of the July 17, ’14 LIVING SKIES event. All are designed to be found FIRST as part of GC557X2. Some will be published only on the day of the event. Printed copies will be shared after the event’s safety review.

This cache alone in the series is on private land with permission of the landowner to retrieve it by water only as usual a human powered watercraft. Participants at the event were given permission to also find by hiking. If you camp at Marcel's campground, please ask him for permission first.  Once winter arrives and the lake is solid ice, there will be other ways to reach our caches.  Please leave the FTF for those participating in the event which starts on Thurs., July 17 at 10 am.  All are welcome to join us!

The cache celebrates the early homsteaders of the area.  The Vey and Reynaud families immigrated from France in 1896 and began homsteading in 1897.  This farm and recreation area  continues to be owned by the Vey family.  We will be enjoying lunch in his campground. The farm stead was recognized as a Canadian Historic site in 2005.  Take time to explore the many historic caches  in this area.

You are looking for a well cammoed plastic ammo can with goodies linked to the  cache name.  There is an unactivated Czech TB for the FTF and a BC  non trackable coin for the STF.  Watch out for barb wire and homestead bits of metal.

Ambitious paddlers can circle the lake for even more caches.  Please note that the lake can get quite rough.  Keep an eye on the weather.  Due to the high water levels and beaver activity with many underwater logs, the caches will be hard to reach in motor boats.
