You need to get to know your target.
Some puzzles just need some research.
Wikipedia is one great place to start, but occasionally some more in depth internet hunting is needed.
Not all puzzles are hard. Some aren't too difficult at all once you understand what you need to do with them.
Here are some more pointers for all puzzles:
- Always check the cache name, also anagrams of it, for a hint of how to start thinking.
- Check the name the cache owner used when hiding it.
- Check the related webpage, background images and the hint.
- Check where the posted coordinates are at - sometimes that location is a hint even though a visit isn't required.
- What do you know about the hider? Do they like computer stuff, bible verses, electrical or scientific stuff, airports, comics or movies?
- Do a google search on any odd sounding phrases - they might be from some book, movie, poem or song - perhaps with a number associated with it.
- Google is your friend.
- Check the Difficulty stars rating - are you over-thinking it?
All you want in the end is a set of co-ordinates, made up of numbers, numbers can be derived from anywhere.
