Vytauto parko laiptai pastatyti 4-jame dešimtmetyje. Apatinėje laiptų dalyje sutvirtinančios šlaitą akmeninės sienos, metalinės tvorelės, žibintai, kažkada buvusios, tačiau iki šių dienų neišlikusios skulptūros – akivaizdžiai rodo, kad šių laiptų autorius gerai išmanė savo specialybę. Sovietmečiu vykdant šių laiptų rekonstrukciją, betoninės pakopos buvo pakeistos juodo granito. Tik nedaugelis kauniečių žino, kad tarp laiptų, vedančių atrakciono parko bei Laisvės alėjos 2 namo link, yra užversti vokiečių laikais iškasti bei niekieno netyrinėti tuneliai. Kadangi šiame name gyveno aukšto rango karininkai, spėjama, kad šie tuneliai buvo skirti jų evakuacijai bombardavimo metu. Vedančių Sporto halės link laiptų viršuje, viduryje šaligatvio, jau daugelį dešimtmečių guli didelis akmens luitas, kai kurių kauniečių vadinamu net Kauno Puntuku. Ir niekas nežino, kodėl jis atsirado būtent šioje vietoje. Pokario metais šių laiptų apačioje buvo pastatyta bilietų kasa, kurioje šiuo metu kiemsargiai laiko savo darbo įrankius. Norintieji patekti į gausius tuo metu vykstančius renginius, einantys iš miesto centro kauniečiai šioje kasoje nusipirkdavo bilietus, kuriuos kontrolieriai tikrindavo ties iki šių dienų išlikusiais varteliais. Kauniečiams įsigudrinus patekti aplinkiniais šlaitais bei kiemais, po kelerių metų buvo atsisakyta ir šios kasos. 2001 metais vyko Vytauto laiptų kairiosios atšakos kapitalinis remontas. Sutvarkyta 119 pakopų, greta jų įrengtas dviračių takas. Specialistų nuomone, šis dviračių takas status, tad juo leistis gana pavojinga. Jis daugiau skirtas dviračiams į viršų užvežti.

Vytautas park staircase was built in the 4th decade. The stone walls in the bottom staircase reinforcing the slope, metal fences, lights, sculptures that sadly are not here anymore - clearly shows that the author of the staircase knew their specialty. In Soviet times during the reconstruction of the stairs, concrete steps have been replaced by black granite. Not many of Kaunas citizens know that beneath the stairs leading to theme park from Freedom Avenue the Germans dug the tunnels that barely have been explored by anyone. Since in the closest house to the stairs lived high-ranking military officers it is believed that the tunnels were designed to evacuate them during the bombing. In the middle of the sidewalk on top stairs leading toward the Sports hall for many decades lies a large stone block some even called it “Kaunas Puntukas”. No one knows why it occurred precisely at this point. In the postwar years, in the bottom of the stairs was built a ticket office, where currently Sweepers keep their tools. In postwar years those wishing to enter to many events taking place at the time, coming from the city center of Kaunas had to buy tickets in the box office that were checked by controllers at the gates that still remain in the beginning of the stairs. After Kaunas residents managed to get in through the surrounding slopes and courtyards the ticket office was abolished. In 2001 the Vytautas Park stairs left part was renovated. 119 well-appointed steps were renovated, in addition to the bicycle lanes. According to specialists, this bike trail is very steep, so going down is quite dangerous. It is more for bicycles to be driven up to the top.
