Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Mount Higgins Cache. This Cache was made with the hopes that more people would get out and experience the hike behind the cache. We have noticed that there are a large majority of caches that are a short hike or not very difficult. This cache offers the difficulty of the terrain along with spectacular scenery that is unforgettable. If this appeals to you than this is the cache for you.

This cache is definatly a hike and you may want to set aside a day for this cache due to the length and difficulty of the terrain (round trip is approximately 9 miles). Also, this cache is not recommended for small children.

Once you get to the top, which is an old burned down fire lookout tower, the view will make the hike all worthwhile. We made the cache itself easy to find, because the hike is hard enough. The cache will be an easier hike during the late spring to late fall months. But if you’re willing to brave the snow, especially if the weather is clear, your experience will be that much more memorable. We recommend trying both just to see the beauty of both elements. If you do attempt it in the snow, please make sure you have snow-hiking experience and the proper equipment. For more information about Mount Higgins check out this artilce.

Parking for the cache can be located at 48° 18.632N, 121° 51.001W. There is a point of interest on the trail located at 48° 18.700N, 121° 50.206. It is an engraved rock. If you're interested in the history behind this rock, check out "100 Hikes in Washington's Glacier Peak Region: the North Cascades", by Ira Spring and Harvey Manning, Mountaineer Books, 1996, (third edition).

The cache is an ammo box with the usual stuff, but there is also a disposable camera. Please leave the camera in the cache. Please feel free to take pictures of yourself or of the scenery while you are there. We will return periodically for the camera and replace it with a new one. Eventually we will post pictures on the site for others to enjoy.

We have posted several pictures of Mount Higgins and the hike in both dry and snow conditions. Please take the time to view these and you’ll see why this will be a cache that will give lasting memories.

Note: The coordinates may be about 40' off. This was our first cache and we have not had the time to get back up there and update the coordinates. Try finding it with out the hint first, but we would recommend having it just in case. It's an awfully long hike to get all the way up there and not find it. Of course it is still worth it even if you don't find it.

Thanks for visiting (Signed)

The Wolf Pack

We would like to give a special thanks to John for cutting the trail for us in the snow. Without you this cache would never have been hidden.
