Berg Lake is a lake on the Robson River just below the river's source located within Mount Robson Provincial Park, at the doorstep of the north face of Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. It is partly fed by the Berg Glacier.

The turquoise colored Berg Lake is dotted with icebergs even in the middle of summer. The source of its water are Berg glacier and Mist glacier. In 1907 the lake named Iceberg Lake because of the icebergs that break off the glacier at the foot of Mount Robson and float about in the lake.  Later the name was shorten to the current name.

Berg Lake can be reached by following a marked hiking trail for 19 kilometres (12 mi) from the parking lot.

Berg Lake and Mount Robson

Berg Lake is a so called tarn lake. It was carved out by a glacier over eons. In the zone of Abrasion the tons of carved out mud and rock creates a glacial moraine. This is a natural barrier for the melting water.

To claim your find, you must email a short note to the cache owner which contains all the following information:

a) Measure the temperature of Berglake.
b) At N53° 8.448 W119° 10.401 (see waypoint 'sign') there was a brown colored sign with 'Berg Glacier' written in it. Please estimate width, height and thickness of the Berg Glacier. Then calculate the volume with this formula: Volume = height * width * thickness.
After sending me the information you can log. If there is a problem with your answers I will contact you.

Don't post the answers in your log! Optional you can upload photos of you or your GPS with Berg Lake in the background.

Remember! This is a National Park! Don't leave the roads and paths! The cache was placed with permission from Parks Canada and complies with their geocaching guidelines found here.
