Geocache Description:

Join some Swedish geocachers visiting the States for a tradtional Swedish fika!

T@bibito and BandLEngstrom are on a nation-wide road trip that will takes all the way from New York to Seattle. We are spending a couple of days in the Chicago area and really would like to meet some geoachers from the local community.

Some explenation of the social instituion that is the "fika" from Wikipedia;

Fika is both a Swedish verb and noun (pronounced "fee-ka" that basically implies "drinking coffee", usually accompanied by something sweet. More recently, a more contemporary generalised meaning of the word, where the coffee may be replaced by tea or even juice, lemonade, squash etc. for the children, has become widespread. In some social circles, even a smörgås or a small meal may be denoted "a fika". In Sweden pastries in general (for example cinnamon buns) are often referred to as fikabröd meaning fika-bread.

We have found the perfect spot for having an early morning fika, right here in Andersonville with its Swedish heritage. A local bakery specializing in Swedish pastries.

  • The Fika event will start at 09:00 am to approx 09:30. (It is never too early for pastries)
  • Parking is avaliable on the street.
  • There will be a log book avaliable to sign.
  • Bring your favourite cup of coffee (or other fika-approved beverage)
  • Bring TB's longing for Seattle or Scandinavia.
