John S. Cotton is buried here, in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, along with his son, John S. Cotton, Jr. and several other family members. John's wife, Avice, was the daughter of Samuel and Avice Gardner. Her stone is the oldest looking one on the left and hard to read. It looks like she died at 17 years old! Anyone familiar with the history of Swansea will know that the Gardners played a big part in the development of the town and the area know as Gardner's Neck. If you have attempted our "Gardner Cemeteries - North & South" cache (GC4ZE22), you have met some of the Gardner family. Now you get to meet the Cotton family!
