Elmer Lach was born January 22nd 1918 in Nokomis Saskatchewan. He signed with the Montreal Canadiens on October 24th, 1940 and played all 14 years of his NHL career with the Habs, winning 3 Stanley Cups. The most memorable was the 3rd when he scored the Stanley Cup winning goal at 01:22 of OT to beat the Boston Bruins. In the post game celebrations, the Rocket Richard accidentally broke Lach's nose! He also won the Hart Trophy in 1945 as the leagues most valuable player. Elmer was also a part of the famous "Punch Line" playing with Toe Blake and Maurice, "The Rocket" Richard. One of the highlights of his career was when he won the league scoring championship in 1947-48 season.
Elmer played a total of 740 games, scoring 234 goals and adding 453 assists for 687 points. His jersey number 16 was retired on December 4th, 2009 and raised to the rafters. He was inducted into the HHOF in 1966.
