This is an easy multi cache that will take you to the last two physical remains that was once Pere Cheney, the ghost town that was once the most important town in Crawford County.
Hello fellow geocachers, Radman here. Somehow, I have successfully traveled in time to find out what Pere Cheney was really like in its heyday. The year is 1880 and the town is officially established. Lumber and jobs are plentiful, providing a livelihood for many families that called this town home. A hotel, school, sawmill, doctor's office, and a general store were but a few of the businesses and buildings that dot Pere Cheney's landscape. Life is good!
But sadly, these people have no idea what is in store for them. Diseases will claim the lives of hundreds of Cheneyites, providing the graveyard with many new permanent residents. Many of these victims will be children, especially those younger than five. Fires will claim many buildings, with no bodies of water nearby to provide firefighters any chance to extinguish them. Pere Cheney will eventually lose out to Grayling for the county seat and will run out of lumber, giving it no reason to exist. The buildings and the cemetery will either rot away or be vandalized beyond repair. I will not tell these poor people of their fate, to prevent the timeline from being tampered with. All I ask, is to find this cache, to help make people remember the once-proud citizens of this town.
The first stage is at a tombstone in Pere Cheney's cemetery... one of the few that are left. Take the last three numbers in the year he died (ie 1999) and subtract it from the following coords:
N 44* 34.1711 (I know it is too many numbers, they won't be when you subtract them!)
W 084* 38.1185
This will take you to the only other physical remains of Pere Cheney. Many of you might know what that is, but go ahead and visit the cemetery and participate anyways!
