SAFETY FIRST:
- DO NOT come here if it’s wet or dark.
- Take care near cliff edges and particularly at the balancing rock GZ.
- Activate tracking on your GPSr. This is not quite trackless wilderness, but if you become disorientated, it will be handy to have a line on the map page to head to.
- No climbing equipment is required to reach any of these caches.
- You have to leave what passes for a track to climb up the ridge to the geocaches, but it’s not a difficult or dangerous climb.
ONCE AGAIN
There is a lot of dry lichen on these rocks. It will be treacherous when wet!

This is not the actual spot – I'm just messin' with ya head.
This is one of four geocaches in this area entitled "Balancing Rock".
To find this geocache, you must first find either of the nearby traditional geocaches named Balancing Rock – afternoon delight or Balancing Rock – N.U.F.A.S. Co-ordinates on the inside front cover of the log books in those geocaches will direct you to this one.
When you are standing at the co-ordinates given in both the two traditional geocaches, you will be able to look down and see a collection of rocks. Have you heard the term, “an unnatural pile of rocks”? As soon as I saw this collection, I knew I’d put the geocache there. If you’re not sure, it’s about 10 metres from where you are, but of course, there is the little matter of your current elevation.
There is easy access left and right of your location, so you don’t have to slide down the rocks in front of you. It looks a bit dangerous, so definitely don’t go straight down there.
When you find this geocache, you’ll also find the co-ordinates for the fourth geocache, “Balancing Rock – WOW!” inside the front cover of the log book.
EXTRA BONUS – a great view
A few metres to the north along the cliff top, you’ll find a great spot to sit and admire the view. I had lunch there on the day I found this place and even before I took out my binoculars, I spotted the television towers on Mt Coot-tha, Brisbane CBD, the Gabba light towers, Mt Gravatt outlook and ANZ stadium. With the binoculars, I could see Brisbane Airport control tower and The Gateway Bridge.

This is the best viewpoint of these four geocaches. Take a little time to savour it before you head over to the balancing rock. I hope you have a clear day.
