Geocache Description:

This cache is part of my 'Booth Loop' series, almost half of which runs along the Pennine Way.

This small series of caches takes you on a loop of about 3.5 miles between Grindsbrook Booth (Edale itself), Upper Booth and Barber Booth. Parking is available in the village, and there are waypoints showing this on the first cache in the series. Most of the cache containers are either small clip-boxes or micro tube style containers. None of them have pens in, so you will need to bring your own.

None of the caches are in dry stone walls, so please do not look in any.

While you're walking around the loop, don't forget to look around you. This series is set in a beautiful valley, and the views alone are well worth the walk. It would be great to see photos on the logs! If you're feeling a bit more adventurous, there are a couple of my 'Oh Noe' mini-series set very close to the route of this series.

History

By the eighteenth century the pastures in the Edale valley were full of sheep rather than cattle, and the enclosure acts of the late 18th century resulted in the valley becoming a patchwork quilt of small fields enclosed by stone walls built using the local gritstone.

This had a dramatic effect on the look of the valley and although the walls now look as though they have been there almost forever, they are actually mostly less than 200 years old.

The Cache

Before you pass through the gate, turn left and head up the field towards the corner. The cache is hidden here.

Please be wary of muggles, as the next field is used as a campsite, and can be quite busy with campers at various times of the year.

Please replace the cache exactly as found. You'll need your own pen, as there isn't one in the cache, and you do need to sign the log to claim a find.
