Geocache Description:

This cache is part of my 'Booth Loop' series, almost half of which runs along the Pennine Way.

This small series of caches takes you on a loop of about 3.5 miles between Grindsbrook Booth (Edale itself), Upper Booth and Barber Booth. Parking is available in the village, and there are waypoints showing this on the first cache in the series. Most of the cache containers are either small clip-boxes or micro tube style containers. None of them have pens in, so you will need to bring your own.

None of the caches are in dry stone walls, so please do not look in any.

While you're walking around the loop, don't forget to look around you. This series is set in a beautiful valley, and the views alone are well worth the walk. It would be great to see photos on the logs! If you're feeling a bit more adventurous, there are a couple of my 'Oh Noe' mini-series set very close to the route of this series.

History

The Sheffield to Stockport railway line was built by the Midland Railway in 1894, and really opened up Edale to tourists and the outside world. Its construction was a massive feat of civil engineering, and when it was built, the two-mile-long Cowburn Tunnel under Brown Knoll was one of the longest in the country. This scenic route is sometimes known as the "Ramblers' Route" and is used by walkers coming from either side of the Pennines, meaning that Edale, despite being a small village, is one of the busier railway stations in Derbyshire.

The Cache

To get to this cache, you will first come to a farm gate on your right which states it is private land. The small section that is gated (by three gates) is indeed private, however there is a small trail just past the gate which circumvents the private land.

For this cache you need to go just over the railway bridge, and it can be reached from the trail.

Please replace the cache exactly as found so that it doesn't fall out. You'll need your own pen, as there isn't one in the cache, and you do need to sign the log to claim a find.
