Geocache Description:

This cache is part of my 'Booth Loop' series, almost half of which runs along the Pennine Way.

This small series of caches takes you on a loop of about 3.5 miles between Grindsbrook Booth (Edale itself), Upper Booth and Barber Booth. Parking is available in the village, and there are waypoints showing this on the first cache in the series. Most of the cache containers are either small clip-boxes or micro tube style containers. None of them have pens in, so you will need to bring your own.

None of the caches are in dry stone walls, so please do not look in any.

While you're walking around the loop, don't forget to look around you. This series is set in a beautiful valley, and the views alone are well worth the walk. It would be great to see photos on the logs! If you're feeling a bit more adventurous, there are a couple of my 'Oh Noe' mini-series set very close to the route of this series.

History

Commuters were not the only by-product of the railways. During the period between the first and second world wars there was a strong movement for people to get out of the grimy, smoky towns at the weekends and go walking or ‘rambling’ in the countryside.

The Ramblers Association and the Youth Hostels Association were products of this time, and each weekend the train would disgorge thousands of ramblers at Edale station.

The Cache

This cache is near the gate through to the field. Please re-hide it well so that it doesn't go missing again.

You'll need your own pen, as there isn't one in the cache, and you do need to sign the log to claim a find.

Onward!

Once you go through the gate, don't go through the obvious farm gate following the tracks, but head about 50 yards further north and you'll come to a small gate hidden in a hollow. Go through here and follow this trail.
