Peace within the Heart Traditional Geocache

Fort McAllister Historic Park is located on the banks of the Ogeechee River, this scenic park showcases the best-preserved earthwork fortification of the Confederacy. Nestled among giant live oaks, Spanish moss and salt marsh, this park is a beautiful location for camping, fishing, boating and picnicking. It is also part of Georgia’s Colonial Coast Birding Trail so bring a picnic, experience the park’s history, and see the wildlife on the nearby nature trail.

This cache is located near the road for the Savage Island causeway which is a designated bike / hike trail to the island. You will have to park at the parking coords and bike or hike the one mile to the island. If you are a registered camper staying in the camp ground you will be given the code to the gate and will be able to drive to Savage Island. If you feel like a bike ride the office has bicycles for rent. Fort McAllister is the only Georgia State Park whose camp ground is on an island.

Please be respectful of the animal and plant life and be sure to Leave No Trace behind except for your footsteps and take nothing but memories and perhaps some swag from the container. So grab a park map and just follow your GPS receiver!

$5 parking. Annual passes available.
