The WPA or Work Progress Administration / Work Projects Administration was enacted by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1935. It was part of the New Deal program for employing the millions left unemployed by the great depression.
The WPA did public works projects throughout the US. Most of these projects have long since beeen destroyed do to the modern demands. This bridge was built in 1939 and still carries the WPA markings.
