Igrane is a small town with a rich history, lying on the banks of the Adriatic Sea on the Makarska Riviera. Population is 420 permanent citizens, but in the summer it receives thousands of tourists. The town has unique atmosphere of a Mediterranean fishing village with winding streets, stone walls, courtyards and corners covered with ivy. Unlike many other towns in the area has not yet assumed the character of commercial mass tourism. Before World War II there were about 2000 inhabitants. Most of them went to America, Australia and many other countries. Exodus then completed a stampede of Serb civilians during the war in Jugoslavia. Many houses are abandoned and therefore many of them have changed in ruins.
Igrane is a city with a long historical tradition. At the highest point of the city is fortress Kula Zale tower, which was built in the 17th century to defend against the Turks. It is named after the legendary leader of defend the coast from the Muslims. Near is baroque Church of Our Lady of Ružarija, which has been rebuilt in the 19th century. The town is surrounded by vast groves of olive trees. Their yield and sale of olive oil, together with tourism is the main livelihood of the local inhabitants. Among the terraced fields is the oldest church on the whole Makarska Riviera. It is the church of Saint Michael (St Michael) from the 11th century.
Igrane je malé městečko s bohatou historií, ležící na březích Jadranu na Makarské riviéře. Žije zde 420 stálých obyvatel, ale během letních prázdnin přijíždí tisíce turistů. Městečko má neopakovatelnou atmosféru středomořské rybářské osady s křivolakými uličkami, kamennými zídkami, dvorky a zákoutími porostlými břečťanem. Na rozdíl od řady dalších mest v okolí zatím ještě nezískalo charakter komerční masové turistiky. Ještě před druhou světovou válkou zde žilo okolo 2000 obyvatel. Většina z nich však odešla do Ameriky, Austrálie a řady dalších zemí. Exodus pak dokončil úprk srbského obyvatelstva během války v Jugoslávii. Řada domů je proto opuštěná a mnohé z nich se změnily v ruiny.
Igrane je město s dlouhou historickou tradicí. Na nejvyšším místě nad městem stojí pevnostní věž Kula Zale, která byla postavena v 17. století na obranu proti Turkům. Je pojmenována po legendárním vůdci obrany pobřeží před muslimy. Nedaleko se nachází barokní kostel Panny Marie od Ružarija, který byl přestavěn v 19. století. V okolí města se nachází rozlehlé háje olivovníků. Jejich sběr a prodej olivového oleje tvoří spolu s turistickým ruchem hlavní obživu zdejších obyvatel. Mezi terasovitými políčky stojí nejstarší kostel na celé Makarské riviéře. Je to kostelík Svatého Michala (Sv. Mihovil) z 11. století.
