Enjoy the spectacular vista of the Catskill Mountains in southern New York from this majestic location on State Game Lands atop the Moosic Mountains.
Many accesses, but a good one is the same as the nearby "Top O The Mountain" geocache at N 41.28.938, W 75.28.665. Rabbit, grouse, deer and coyote roam these hills so keep an eye out for the chance encounter. Multiple picture opportunities abound so don't forget your camera and field glasses. Cache site is perfect for summer picnics and has excellent open terrain for kites. Co-ordinates will take you to a stone throne. No bushwhacking involved. Game land roads and wide trails (excellent for biking) take you to within 50 - 100 feet of the throne depending on your approach. Edit March 12, 2006: Old cache remains in place ("Just a stone's throw from the stone throne, you will find this cache next to a (you guessed it) stone, hidden by stones." - original cache description), but the New cache container is in place now. To find the new cache you will need to explore the royal kingdom nearby. 7 royal subjects (within 100') nearby have grown green with envy, so a new cache has been placed nearby one of them. If you enjoy exploring, there is a cave directly to the front of the royal throne about 40 feet away. Stick to the trails and you'll have an easy hike. Ground cover is thick, but game trails from the royal perch will take you to the cache.
