Geocache Description:

Tramway Society Ringlinien Around twenty trams have been saved, a collection representing vehicles from the whole of the 20th century. Of these, fifteen are in working order. Take something and leave something.

Trams are part of everyday life in Gothenburg. It is not unusual to see vintage trams running in the streets in the heart of the city. This is thanks to a non-profit organization, Tramway Society Ringlinien (Spårvägssällskapet Ringlinien). Unpaid volunteers restore, maintain and operate these great old Gothenburg trams as part of a partnership with the Göteborgs Spårvägar and Gothenburg City Council. Around twenty trams have been saved, a collection representing vehicles from the whole of the 20th century. Of these, fifteen are in working order. The oldest vehicle on show is a horse-drawn tram from the 1800s and the newest was used when the line to Angered was opened in 1969.There are films too – including one from the years the last trolley buses were used in Gothenburg. There is also a tram simulator with the sort of controls tram divers used at the end of the 1950’s. The depot itself was built in 1930, and should not be confused with the new depot situated nearby. BE CAREFULL OF MUGGLERS/(AKTA DIG FÖR MUGGLERS REPLACE THE CACHE AS YOU FOUND IT PLEASE Gårdahallen Vagnhallen Gårda är hallen där alla veteranspårvagnar och veteranbussar står. Där finns även vår föreningslokal. Hallen byggdes 1930 som ett komplement till vagnhallen Stampen, vilken kommit till redan vid elektrifieringen 1902. På 80-talet flyttade spårvägen till den nya vagnhallen Rantorget och Stampen revs. Gårdahallen fick vara kvar och 1989 flyttade museivagnarna och Ringlinjens verksamhet dit. Efter en motion i Göteborgs Kommunfullmäktige beslöts i slutet på 1995 att byggnaden skall bevaras som vagnhall för den historiska vagnparken. Ringlinjen fick vid detta beslut status som "främmande inrättning" och har numera hela verksamheten samlad i hallen. Våren 2011 invigdes Spårvägsmuseet i södra delen av byggnaden.
