Team Bear-Cat: This cache has had a good long run, but with recent changes to trails and to the material at the Nature Center, it is time to put it away. Thanks to all the finders and the staff who enlightened and informed many!

Geocache Description:

Ever looked up at the clouds and wondered about them ?? A little research will help you solve this Mystery cache and will take you to a little-known area of Cloudland Canyon State Park, where the final (an ammo-box) awaits.

Cloudland Canyon State Park sits on Lookout Mountain in the NW corner of the state of Georgia.    There is a LOT to do here -- miles of trails, waterfalls, etc.  And now there is the first mystery puzzle cache placed here too!

The final for this cache is found at N 34 49.ABC, W 085 28.DEF. It is not at the posted coordinates!

However! The posted coordinates WILL take you to a good source of information about the park. Go inside this building when it is open (generally 10am-5pm) and look for or ask the staff member for a blue folder marked 'CLOUD GEOCACHE' with information about clouds. The information you need to solve the following cloud-questions below is in this folder.

If you are working on this cache and the nature center is not open, you can still have your weather lesson by looking here.

---

  1. How do clouds move? The major source of 'power' behind clouds is _______. The number of letters in this word plus one is "A" and "D"

  2. A cloud with a mother-of-pearl color is called a “______ Cloud.”) The number of letters in this word, minus two, is “B.”

  3. Why are clouds always white? It’s because they reflect all the colors equally that shine upon them – a phenomenon called “____ Scattering.” The number of letters in this word + 2 is “C.” The number of letters in the same word is "E".

  4. Occasionally, a cloud really does look colorful, due to the prismatic effect of the tiny ice crystals which it contains. Such a cloud is called an “_______ Cloud.” The number of letters in this word, minus one, is “F.”

Placed with permission of the park manager and park naturalist. Please take care to understand the basic rules of geocaching in order to help keep the game enjoyable for all who participate. Please do not move or vandalize the container. Replace the cache like or better than you found it (exactly where you found it).

Sign the log book and leave it in the cache. If you want to take any of other items in the cache, they are there for trade; be sure to leave something of equal or greater value, but don't leave any kind of food items, or anything that is highly aromatic, which could attract critters/creatures/rodents/bugs!

All trails close at sunset, so this is a daylight-only find, unless you are staying at one of the backcountry campsites.

Enjoy your visit at the park and remember to re-hide the cache like or better than you found it and practice, "Leave No Trace." While visiting any Georgia State Park, please obey all park rules and remain on the marked trails as you make your way to find the geocaches!

There is a $5 daily entrance fee, unless you are a member of the Friends of Georgia State Parks!
