Geocache Description:

Fairy Lake Float

This is the FOURTH Float event on Fairy Lake in Acton.

This event is a social gathering of like minded geocachers who also enjoy having a fun time kayaking and canoeing. The event takes place on Fairy Lake in Acton. Before and after the event you can enjoy your time exploring and paddling around the Lake. The best access point to Fairy Lake would be from the boat house (see additional waypoint) which is next to the parking lot within Prospect Park, although there are other spots to access the lake too. It is suggested that you use a kayak or canoe to get to the event as the event is on water. Motor boats are not allowed on Fairy Lake.

Date and Time
The event will take place from 7pm to 8pm on Wednesday, August 20, 2014.

Theme
The theme for this event will be HOT n SPICY.

This year the MM's are growing some SUPER HOT hot peppers in our backyard and we would like to make a salsa using the peppers to bring to the event to sample.

For anyone who knows their peppers, we have two kinds we're growing,

1) Bhut Jolokia (SHU=1,100,000) - aka ghost pepper - aka former Guinness World Record holder as the hottest pepper in the world

2) Butch T Trinidad Scorpion (SHU=1,400,000) - Even hotter than the one above!

(SHU represents The Scoville Heat Unit scale and is the measurement of the pungency (spicy heat) of chili peppers or other spicy foods)

To give you an idea, regular Tabasco sauce weighs in at about 2500-5000 SHU.
Standard US Grade Pepper Spray at 2,000,000-5,000,000.
So these peppers are somewhere in between!

If you have anything HOT n SPICY (food related!) that you would like to bring to the event to share, please feel free though it is by no means required.
Maybe a few gallons of milk will be necessary so plan accordingly!

As of July 15, we have had one very small Bhut Jolokia pepper ripen and we tried cutting it up in teeny-tiny pieces in some salad veggies - it was pretty hot!

We'll post some pictures of them and their growing progress through the summer.

And we'll see you August 20!

In the event of unpleasant weather (rain, high winds, etc) the event will be postponed until the following day or week.
