Geocache Description:

A multi-cache along the new Pathkiller trail.

Cloudland Canyon State Park sits on Lookout Mountain in the NW corner of the state of Georgia.  Home to many great canyons, waterfalls and hiking/biking/horse trails.

There is a $5 daily entrance fee to Cloudland Canyon State Park, unless you are a member of the Friends of Georgia State Parks!

The Pathkiller Trail is a newly opened trail just over a mile long, named for a principal Indian chief who lived in the area. It is a fairly level, broad path, and the final is likewise easy to get to (once you know where it is!). Not paved. You will need to hike the entire trail to visit 3 stages and the final.  (Stage 1 is at the Pathkiller trailhead sign.)

All stages are at N 34 49.xxx and W 085 28.yyy.

Park near an information kiosk. Walk along the unpaved maintenance road toward the privies until you see the wooden Pathkiller Trailhead sign (with a green circle on it). This is Stage One.

Look carefully at the sign. Note the trail-distance on that sign and a digit on the back of the sign. Those three digits in sequence, plus 59, equal the North coordinate for Stage 2. West is 955.

At stage two, look for a triple-trunked tree very close to the trail. Look under a rock at the base for a small metal container. Inside you will find the north coordinate of Stage 3.

Stage 3 is at a point where Pathkiller meets another trail: N xxx, W 085 28.808. At Stage 3, you are looking for three digits on sign post. From that number, subtract the number of bolts on the signpost. That number is your western coordinate to the final!

Add the number of bolts in the sign to 192 for the north coordinate of the final.

It is a regular sized plastic container, camo'd, at base of a large tree a short distance off the same trail. Retrace your steps back along with Pathkiller trail to find it. Please no bushwacking and short-cutting; stay on the trail until you are approximately 90' from the coordinates !

Placed with permission of the park manager and park naturalist. Please take care to understand the basic rules of geocaching in order to help keep the game enjoyable for all who participate. Please do not move or vandalize the container.

Sign the log book and leave it in the cache. If you want to take any of other items in the cache, they are there for trade. Be sure to leave something of equal or greater value, but don't leave any kind of food items, or anything that is highly aromatic, which could attract critters/creatures/rodents/bugs!

All trails close at sunset, so this is a daylight-only find.

Enjoy your visit at the park and remember to re-hide the cache like or better than you found it and practice, "Leave No Trace." While visiting any Georgia State Park, please obey all park rules and remain on the marked trails as you make your way to find the geocaches!
