Geocache Description:

The New Bridge was completed and opened December 2021.

A new bridge has been built on the northern side of the existing Panmure Bridge that connects the Panmure Train Station to the Eastern Suburbs. This bridge is for buses, cyclists and pedestrians only. Bridge construction started 2015-2017 and completed by December 2021.

The new bridge is part of The Auckland Manukau Eastern Transport Initiative (AMETI) Phase 2: Panmure to Pakuranga - a group of transport projects for the southeast (Panmure, Mt Wellington, Sylvia Park, Pakuranga, Howick and Botany).

The new bridge contains 2 x 3.5m busway lanes and a 4.3m shared cycle/pedestrian path. It avoids affecting the last intact portion of the Makoia Pa site, which also forms part of the crater rim of the Panmure Basin.

The existing 3-laned bridge remains for private vehicles and provides adequate capacity to move forecasted traffic volumes and ensures there are no safety or congestion issues.

There is about 7km of new cycling paths and 6km of footpaths, including new paths linking Panmure and Pakuranga along Lagoon Drive and Pakuranga Rd.

Once you have found the cache, wander across to the centre of the bridge for better views.

Parking coordinates are provided on both sides of the bridge for your access and safety.
