The Mill Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Southerntrekker: Hi There

As the owner has not responded to either my log or my colleague's previous log requesting that they check this cache I am archiving it.

Please note that once the cache has been archived, this can not be undone. This is explained in the Help Center - http://support.groundspeak.com//index.php?pg=kb.page&id=70

You will need to create a new listing, put it back in for review and as long as it meets today's guidelines and no other caches have been published in the area causing a proximity problem, then it will be published.

Regards

Geocache Description:

This is part of a series of caches forming a circular walk of around 8 miles. All the caches are near points of historical or archaeological interest in or around Aberdaron, at the end of the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales.

This cache is near the main road into Aberdaron, overlooking the ruins of the old village corn mill. Some care will be required to keep the cache location secret. Be careful of prickles!

200 years ago farming in this area would have been a mix of arable and pasture. Corn from the fields surrounding Aberdaron would have been brought here to be milled.  The wheel has now gone but the mill pond can be seen above the, now disused, old mill buildings. Notice how the pond is above the river. To feed it the river had to be tapped into much further back up the valley and a piped mill run established to feed this pond. When the mill wheel (which drove the machinery inside via belts) needed to be worked, the water in this pond would have been released.
