天神中央公園は、1981年11月に福岡市博多区東公園に移転した福岡県庁の跡地にあります。県市民の憩いの場として緑地空間を提供し、非常災害時における緊急避難場所を目的として、平成元年3月に完成しました。公園の南端には、福岡県庁が天神にあったとき使われていた石柱や石材で作られた噴水広場があります。そこにはまるでアテナ神殿のような空間が広がっています。
