This cache is placed in Happy Hollow on State Route 78 at the crossing of Monday Creek near Snow Fork just to the east of Nelsonville Ohio. Monday Creek was named because the original surveyors camped on a Monday where Monday Creek flows into the Hocking River. Snow Fork was name because a family named Snow first bought land and settled here.
Monday Creek and Snow Fork are impacted by acid mine drainage. There have been a few projects to neutralize and otherwise mitigate the acid in the drainage by various means. Look at the stream when you visit and see if the water looks clear. While Happy Hollow is green and attractive in summer, Monday Creek and Snow Fork often have an orange or green color.
