Geocache Description:

Some Downriver residents may recall a great race that happened decades ago, a race that answered a question: Is it better to be fast, or be steady and slow?

Harry was the fastest of his friends, and bragged twenty four-seven. When he stopped boasting for even a minute it was a sweet taste of heaven. One day Tim slowly walked up to his friends, and Harry let out a wail! “You’re so slow, Tim!” Harry yelled, “You couldn’t outrun a snail!” Tim gradually rolled his eyes until his gaze fell back on Harry’s face. “Why did you roll your eyes, Tim?” Harry demanded, “You think you could beat me in a race!?” “As a matter of fact, I do.” Tim replied as he smiled a big slow smile, “If that was a challenge, then I accept.” Tim said, “Lets race, shall we say… two miles?”

Harry was so excited that he jumped around and around. “We’ll start at the river and race from there! Tim, you better not back down!”

All friends watching with curious eyes, the pair lined up at the water’s edge. Confident he would win, Harry smiled and then gave Tim a pledge.

With his toothy grin Harry gave Tim his guarantee, “I want this day to be remembered for all eternity! So everyone will forever know who won this race with certainty, I’ll make a statue of each of us and place them… appropriately.”

“The statue of the winner will be placed in the shade where it will stay nice and cool. For the view, it rivals few – overlooking a glistening pool. Now I know I won’t lose because of my very speedy dash, so I vow to put the statue of the loser behind the place where people keep their trash.”

When the race began, Harry shot ahead with more speed than Tim could comprehend. In a very short time, Harry looked behind, but saw no sign of his friend. Harry was so far ahead that the distance from Tim was such a large gap, that Harry slowed down, he looked around, and decided to take a fast nap.

The finish line was crossed that day under the warm yellow sun. If curiosity gets the best of you, there is a way to find out who won. Harry carried out his pledge, and the statues are in place. Set out and find either prize, and you’ll know who won the great race…
